Scripture First | Scholars Second

Welcome to a bold new entrant in the escatalogical arena.  While the word INTRAMILLENNIALISM® is new, the building blocks are exclusively scripture. Scholars exist on all sides of this area of theology.

Let the Holy Spirit lead

you as you

test the merits of Intramillennialism®.

THE PROBLEM ~ No millennial view currently offered conforms well enough with scripture to be commonly accepted across Christendom.

INTRODUCTION

Scripture does not provide a detailed step-by-step progression of end-time events,

but scripture does gives us all the parts and pieces...

just in various forms and contexts.

It is believed by most all Christians

that with discernment and an appropriate interpretative methodology

we can know the progression of end-time events.

Hence we have the study of last things... eschatology.

(Eschatology stems from the Greek word “eschatos” which means last or final.)

Within Eschatology there have been two primary, historic, ideological camps, or belief systems:

1. Premillennialism (AD 100's - Martyr/Irenaeus), and

2. Amillennialism (AD 300's - St. Augustine)

The primary distinction that these two camps hold

 (among many other distinctions)

is the relationship of the the Second Coming to the Millennium.

Premillennialism holds that the Second Coming is before the Millennium.

Amillennialism holds that the Second Coming is after the Millennium.

All systems start with one of these two perspectives and, therefore, are variants of one or the other.

In the 1600’s a newly developed system was put forward by Thomas Brightman.

This view is called Postmillennialism and it is a distinct variant of Amillennialism.

In the 1800's a newly developed system was put forward by John Darby.

This view is called Dispensational Premillennialism and it is a distinct variant of Premillennialism.

(To keep the two Premillennial camps straight, the original is often referred to as Historic Premillennialism)

So, since the 1800's there have been four primary recognized views:

1. Historic Premillennialism

2. Amillennialism

3. Postmillennialism, and

4. Dispensational Premillennialism

(and, of course, their innumerable iterations)

These systems strive to articulate the end-time story and how the primary end-time events,

such as the Millennium and the Second Coming,

relate to each other

as well as how they relate to

other perceived end-time events,

such as

the Great Tribulation and the Rapture.

THE PROBLEM

The problem is that no millennial view currently offered conforms well enough with scripture

to be commonly accepted across Christendom.

This is evidenced by the fact that

very good,

well-intentioned,

bible-believing,

theologians, scholars, and teachers

are

ALL-OVER-THE-MAP

in terms of their beliefs, and teachings, in this area of theology.

This, in and of itself, may be the most obvious indication

that we have yet to accurately identify HIS intended plan for the progression of end-time events.

It is self-evident that Christendom,

in this area of theology,

is completely fractured:

· Some views see the millennium as primarily physical

· Some views see the millennium as primarily spiritual

· Some views believe that a decreasing faithfulness and a continuing degradation of society will lead to end-time events

· Some views believe that increasing faithfulness will lead to end-time events

· Some views see the millennium as happening before the second-coming

· Some views see the millennium as happening after the second-coming

· Some views understand that we are in the millennium now

· And, the innumerable iterations of these primary views demonstrate further dis-harmony

It would seem that there could not be more diametrically opposed views than those currently offered.

Again, this may be the most glaring indication that the current set of views do not appropriatelly identify HIS intended plan for the progression of end-time events.

THE SOLUTION - THE FIFTH VIEW:

INTRAMILLENNIALISM®

In this the 2000's, Intramillennialism® enters the eschatological arena as a newly developed system.

Intramillennialism® is a distinct variant of Amillennialism.

(Click the above TAB: Millennial Views Chart to see a chart that compares and contrasts each of these five views.)

Intramillennialism® maintains three objectively demonstratable pillars:

 1) Scriptural Conformity

This means:

a) following where the Bible leads

b) not going beyond where the the Bible leads, and

c) not imposing something on scripture that is not warranted by scripture

2) Faithful & Consistent Biblical Interpretation

a) Let Scripture Interpret Scripture, and

b) The Grammatical-Historical Method

3) The Identification of, and Adherence to,

Revelation's Proof ThemeTM

This theme objectively and scripturally necessitates the application of:

a) a particular purpose for the book of Revelation, which necessitates

b) a particular time frame for the book of Revelation

Revelation's Proof ThemeTM

constrains all, and effectively eliminates some,

of the aforementioned millennial views.

A view that can legitimately claim these three characteristics

- and demonstrate them -

is a view that can largely resolve the eschatological discord among Christians.

YOU BE THE JUDGE

We ask that you,

with the leading of the Holy Spirit,

be the judge.

THE COMMENDATION

Scripture commends those who are willing to search out the scriptures for themselves

and determine what is true.

Scripture calls these individuals

“noble-minded”

(Acts 17:11).

You can be certain that this principal,

this commendation,

applies to you as you invest the time to search the scriptures to determine “what is so”

– regardless of your ultimate determination!

It is this

open-minded,

unbiased,

search for the truth

of the scriptures

that warrants the commendation!

TEST ALL THINGS

Scripture says "Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good." (1Th 5:21)

A Commitment to Scripturally Faithful Interpretation

It is imperative that any study of scripture keep in view the fact that all scripture is God-breathed and all scripture is true.  Also, we must understand that the whole of scripture fits together.  There are no contradictions from Genesis to Revelation.  When it comes to biblical interpretation there are innumerable ways scholars slice and dice methodologies.  Our goal is faithfull consistency in how scripture is interpreted.

Two specific interpretative methodologies are:

Let the Bible Interpret the Bible and the Grammatical-Historical Method.

INTRAMILLENNIALISM® commits to a faithful, and consistant, adherence to both of these methodologies.

LET THE BIBLE INTERPRET THE BIBLE

"Finally, perhaps the most important contextual question is how this text relates to the rest of scripture... suffice it to say that if the text quotes, alludes to, or resembles another part of the Bible, that’s significant for our understanding of what the author was intending to communicate."

Lawrence, M. (2010). Biblical Theology in the Life of the Church: A Guide for Ministry (pp. 43–44). Crossway.

GRAMMATICAL-HISTORICAL METHOD

"Discerning the meaning of the text in this way immediately plunges us into an exploration and study of the grammar, syntax, and literary and historical context of the words we’re reading—thus the phrase: grammatical-historical method."

Lawrence, M. (2010). Biblical Theology in the Life of the Church: A Guide for Ministry (p. 41). Crossway.
